Agreement For Self Government

A Yukon Self-Management Agreement is signed by the Government of Yukon, the Government of Canada and the Government of the First Nation. The IAFF confirms that the future Inuvialuit government will be able to legislate and will have other powers and responsibilities with respect to Inuvialuit. The Inuvialuit government will have the authority to legislate and enforce Inuvialuit laws, design policies and programs, and provide programs and services to the Inuvialuit. Inuvialuit laws apply to the Inuvialuit living in the Western Arctic and to the six Inuvialuit communities. If each First Nation reaches a final agreement, it also reaches a Self-Management Agreement (LMS). This agreement is set out in Chapter 24 of the Umbrella Final Agreement and sets out the powers, powers and responsibilities of each First Nation government. The agreements provide funding that will support the delivery of programs and services at the First Nation level. By moving closer to the Community, the programs and services developed and delivered can be better adapted to the needs of inuvialuit.

The Inuvialuit government will have a Constitution and be accountable to its own citizens. Eleven of Yukon`s fourteen First Nations are self-managed. These First Nations are guided by their final country claim agreements, self-management agreements and constitutions. You can find the self-management agreement for a given nation by visiting its website: Although IRC is negotiating the agreement on behalf of the beneficiaries, the intention is for the final agreement to create an Inuvialuit government that will be separate and separate from the IRC…
